Nikoloz Basilashvili, the 30-year-old Georgian has been under the spotlight in the last few days after being accused of match-fixing along with 28-year-old Russian, Aslan Karatsev. The tennis world came to a standstill after reports came up accusing Basilashvili and Karatsev of fixing the outcome of the games.

German Broadcaster ZDF issued a report that accused both the players of fixing matches, claiming that the players were offered money to fix the outcome of the game. The allegations against Basilashvili go back to the doubles game at Wimbledon last year against Marton Fucsovics and Stefano Travaglia, the accusations surfaced after very high bids were placed and the proceedings are pending at the International Tennis Integrity Agency according to many sources.

Along with the two players, the report by ZDF also accused Karatsev’s coach at the time, Yahor Yatsyk. Basilashvili on the other hand refuted every single accusation placed on him and released a furious statement in response.

The Georgian said, “I found out that the German media mentioned my name in connection with alleged match-fixing, Such accusations have no basis and I deny them. I will not accept that my reputation is damaged by unfounded and absurd accusations. That is why I demand that the media stop with these allegations and lies. The public must be informed that I deny all these allegations. I have authorized a law firm in Germany to protect my interests and fight the spread of misinformation in every possible way.

ZDF also spoke to an unnamed European coach to get more details on the Yatsyk case, the coach said, “Yatsyk has been involved in fixing for years, works with people who have to do with fixing in Russia, eastern Europe.
