“No Big 3 anymore,” Stefanos Tsitsipas claims Federer is ‘finished’, says the rivalry is now between Rafa and Novak

Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic

The Big 3- Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic have practically ruled the world of tennis for the last 2 decades. They have won a whopping 61 grand slam titles amongst themselves and have redefined the way tennis is played and have increased its popularity. Despite their age, they still walk in as the favorites in whichever tournament they play.

Out of the Big 3, Roger Federer has been out of action for the last 8 months. After Wimbledon 2021, Federer decided to undergo yet another knee surgery which ruled him out for months. He is currently in recovery and has started light training. He is expected to be back in a few months. In his absence, many claim that despite his stature, the Swiss won’t be able to win big titles given his age and injury status.

Monte Carlo Masters champion Stefanos Tsitsipas also claims that there is no Big 3 anymore because Roger, Rafa and Novak are the top 3 players in the rankings, and the former has been missing from the tour for a long time now. He believes that the rivalry is now between Rafa and Nole.

I understand you were talking about the Big 3, but right now there’s no Big 3 anymore because they’re not the top three players in the standings right now. One of them has been out for a long time, but I still see competition between the other two,” Tsitsipas said.

Is Stefanos Tsitsipas the favorite to win the French Open?

Stefanos Tsitsipas was the best player on clay last season. He won two titles and made it to the final of two including the French Open where he was just a set away from beating Novak Djokovic. This season too, Tsitsipas has started well on the dirt by defending his Monte Carlo Masters title. He is currently in Barcelona for the Barcelona Open where he is seeded No.1 and will take on Ilya Ivashka in the opening round.

He will set his eyes next on Madrid and Rome before the all-important French Open. Currently, Rafael Nadal is recovering from an injury and hence his form on clay is still unknown. As for Novak Djokovic, he is struggling a lot with form. That puts Stefanos Tsitsipas among one of the huge favorites to win the Roland Garros title. He is definitely one of the huge favorites along with Nadal and Djokovic.
