Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are regarded as the greatest of all time in the world of tennis. The Big 3 have dominated the tennis world for nearly the last 17 years. They have won 62 combined grand slams out of the past 77 tournaments, with Rafael Nadal leading the race in the terms of most majors with 22.

Nick Kyrgios, ranked world number 40, recently achieved a huge feat in his tennis career after reaching his maiden Grand Slam final at Wimbledon 2022. The Aussie player was expected to play Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals, but Nadal was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to the abdominal injury he suffered during his quarterfinal match against Taylor Fritz.

We will never see a competitor like them: Nick Kyrgios

In an interview when Nick Kyrgios was asked about the greatest of all-time debate whether anyone of the next generation can surpass those greats said, “No, I don’t. I don’t think anyone’s able to fill those shoes, to be honest. We’ve got a great crop of young players coming up. Alcaraz is unbelievable. Sinner, you saw what he’s able to do. So many younger guys.”

I don’t think myself or those guys are able to fill those shoes. We’ll never see a competitor like Rafa again. You’ll never see someone wield a racquet like Roger, so effortlessly. You’ll never see probably see anyone who just wins and just plays the game just so good as a winner than Djokovic,” he further added.

I don’t think anyone will fill those shoes. Once they’re gone, I’m not sure. I feel like if I ever am able to lift a Grand Slam trophy, like, please don’t put the pressure on me to do another one. Like, I’m not,” he said.

Futher talking about the younger generation filling the shoes of the likes of Rafa, Roger and Novak, Nick said, “No, I don’t know if anyone’s going to fill those shoes. It’s going to be a sad day when they go. I did a podcast and I said, like, I feel like humans, we take for granted how good athletes are at times. LeBron, for instance, in NBA, he’s been around for 8 years, 9 years almost, at the top of the sport, and we still criticize him.”
