Serena Williams, the former World number one and undeniably one of the greatest athletes of all time is in the twilight of her career. She will probably play her singles match for the final time at the 2022 US Open with the hope of ending on a good note with another US Open title win. She has been the pioneer of revolutionizing women’s tennis and has inspired millions to follow their passion diligently. She has proven her dominance over the years and still continues to do so leaving behind her own legacy.

The American has won 23 singles Grand Slam titles which is the maximum for a player in the Open era. She has managed to win only one out of her four matches since her comeback in the hard-court season. She pulled off the win in the first round at the Canadian Open getting a good start to the hard-court season but soon got eliminated in the next round. She also could not manage to win against Emma Raducanu in the first round at the Western & Southern Open.

Serena, during an interview, upon being asked about her thoughts on the GOAT debate made a bold statement hinting to win in 2017 at the Australian Open. She was nine weeks pregnant still then resorted to playing and even won the title which is nearly impossible and nobody has done something like this ever. She said, “I don’t know any other person that has won a Grand Slam or a championship in the NBA or anything else nine weeks pregnant.

The 6-time US Open champion also shared that she had to put everything at stake while playing especially at the Grand Slam tournaments. She also stated her approach during the tournament and won against all odds keeping herself mentally strong at all times. She further added “A two-week event. During that tournament, I relied on my brain. An athlete isn’t just about what an animal you are physically, like a specimen. It’s using everything. Your mind, your body, everything. And doing that for 20 years. And doing it against people that come against you and play the best game of their life. Every single time.

Serena will face up against Danka Kovinic in the first round in New York. Apart from her singles match, Serena along with her sister Venus Williams has received a wild-card entry at the US Open as they will play for the last time after a gap of almost four years.
