A lot of backlashes are currently against Russia and its mindset amidst the ongoing war against Ukraine. Many people have condemned the Russian mindset of altering peace to expand their territory. Russian tennis player Daria Kasatkina recently has come out as gay in a video interview. Featuring a video posted by Russian blogger Vitya Kravchenko, Kasatkina revealed that she is in a relationship with a woman. She said that it is impossible to live “under the closet” and also spoke about the taboo around homosexuality in Russia.
She talked about the hardships of being gay in Russia and how the notion of someone wanting to be gay or becoming gay is ridiculous. She expressed her frustration by saying nobody would choose to be gay in Russia because of the hardships.
“So many subjects are taboo in Russia,” Kasatkina said. “This notion of someone wanting to be gay or becoming [gay] is ridiculous. I think there is nothing easier in this world than being straight. Seriously, if there is a choice, no one would choose to be gay. Why make your life harder, especially in Russia? What’s the point?”
