“Not a tennis policy” Top journalist bashes Novak Djokovic supporters for wanting the USA to change its rules
Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic, the 35-year-old Serbian recently won his 21st Grand Slam title after beating Nick Kyrgios in the finals of the 2022 Wimbledon. He overtook Roger Federer’s tally of 20 Grand Slam titles and is now just 1 title behind Rafael Nadal’s tally of 22 titles. Djokovic has had to miss out on many tournaments due to his unvaccinated status but the Serbian still keeps on winning wherever he plays.
The latest development is that Novak Djokovic will have to miss out on playing at the US Open which commences in a month, the organizers of the tournament have no mandate against unvaccinated players but they said that they will respect the US government’s decision to let only vaccinated foreigners in the country.
Twitter reacts as Novak Djokovic’s entry at the US Open seems almost impossible now
Top journalist, Jon Wertheim took to Twitter to call out fans of Novak Djokovic as they demanded an exemption for Djokovic’s participation in the US Open, as it has been made clear by the organizers at the tournament that they will be following the US government’s rules and if they do so then Djokovic will not be allowed to participate in the US Open.
It is understood that the Tennis federation of a country isn’t responsible for the immigration rules of a country and that was made clear when Djokovic was deported from Australia while trying to partake in the Australian Open, if the US government has decided that they won’t be allowing unvaccinated foreigners in the country then Djokovic will not be allowed to play unless he gets vaccinated which is unlikely to happen as the Serbian has made his stance clear multiple times.
Fans got into an argument on the same issue as journalist Jon Wertheim made it clear to them as well, after winning the Wimbledon, in his post-match interview, Djokovic said, “I’ll wait hopefully for some good news from the USA because I would really love to go there. That would be probably the next big tournament, the next big swing, playing a tournament or two before US Open and US Open. If that doesn’t happen, then I have to see what the schedule will look like. To be honest, I doubt that I’ll go and chase points.”
