Rafael Nadal, the 36-year-old Spaniard has been a popular topic among many people following his withdrawal from the 2022 Wimbledon due to an Abdominal tear. Nadal played through the quarter-finals against Taylor Fritz with an injury where he beat the American by 3-6, 7-5, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (10-4, the Spaniard, unfortunately, had to withdraw from the semi-finals due to the injury and popular opinion suggests that he should have retired during the match up with Fritz.
American Tennis legend Andy Roddick came in Nadal’s support after he decided to play against Fritz and not retire giving him the win, Roddick disagrees that the beaten player should continue if the player to who he lost withdraws in the next round. Twitter users suggested that Nadal should have retired during the match with Fritz which would have enabled him to play semi-finals against Nick Kyrgios.

In the press conference, Nadal suggested that it would be impossible for him to play two best of five sets with his injury, and withdrawing from the semi-finals is the best option for him. This sparked debates on Twitter as to what Nadal did by not retiring during the 2022 Wimbledon quarter-finals so that he could maintain his Grand Slam lead over Novak Djokovic, Roddick agrees with Nadal’s decision and says that it is not his job to protect other players.
