Novak Djokovic accused of promoting ‘Russo-Serbian agenda’ by politician Ljubomir Filipovic for walking out to Serbian song in Kosovo at the Davis Cup 2023

The second half of the Davis Cup has begun and the countries battle it out in the remaining fixtures to win the most prestigious title for the team. Novak Djokovic and team Serbia were up against Great Britain in their quarter-final game.
The Serbian team entered the arena with a bang. They were introduced with a popular Serbian song about Kosovo & Metohija, and the Serbian people rejoiced in their newly found freedom. While the song brought immense pride in the hearts of the Serbians, others found it controversial and criticized Novak Djokovic for this. Politician Ljubomir Filipovic, who has served in different positions at Montenegro’s national parliament took to the internet to criticize Novak Djokovic for promoting the song.

The politician tweeted:
Kosovo and Montenegro! Outrageous! Djokovic continues to promote his Russo-Serbian nationalist agenda! DavisCup you should be ashamed of yourselves!
Ljubomir Filipovic considered the song as a sign of promoting the Russo-Serbian agenda and bashed the Davis Cup as well as Djokovic. However, it seemed like the players drew motivation from this song and used it to drive them to victory against the British in the quarterfinals of the Davis Cup.
Novak Djokovic left fuming after constant trolling by fans
During the Davis Cup game against Cameron Norrie, Serbian legend Novak Djokovic was left fuming during his game by the fans at the stadium. The fans were extremely noisy during Novak’s serves and some even banged the drums while Novak was trying to give his post-match interview. Not able to handle this, the 36-year-old retaliated.

Angry Djokovic said this on the British crowd’s behavior:
Learn how to respect players, how to behave yourselves, learn how to respect people, you shut up, you be quiet.
In the heat of the game, especially when the stakes are very high, fans tend to go a little overboard with the on-court taunts. Well aware of this, Djokovic stated that he would retort back to the fans.
I mean, they can do whatever they want but I'm going to respond to that. They were trying to annoy me the entire match, so yeah, we had a little bit of a chat in the end.
The Serbian team beat Great Britain with a 2-0 victory. Subsequently, booking a solace in the semi-final for a clash against Italy to try and make it to the grand stage.
