The Serbian tennis megastar, Novak Djokovic, was interrupted by fireworks while serving the match point in the second set against his opponent, Alexander Zverev, in the semi-finals at Cincinnati Masters. Djokovic still succeeded in booking his spot in the Cincinnati Masters Finals by beating his German nemesis.

While Djokovic was about to serve the game point in the last set of the semi-finals, Novak was agitated by the sound of the fireworks that went off in the sky at the same time. He looked distressed by the sound and had to position himself once again, before his serve.

As the arena roared with cheers, Djokovic took a moment to firmly state, “New Year’s come early,” before restarting his duel with his opponent. The incident marked an unexpected moment in between the clash as it captured the enthusiasm of the tennis fans. As the fireworks went off, the crowds in the stadium celebrated Novak’s entry into the finals of the tournament, knowing very well that they were in for another incredible showdown.

The Serb was up against 26-year-old Zverev in the semi-final round of the ongoing Cincinnati Open. Djokovic’s win over the German player came easily to him. The Serb claimed his win in two straight sets. The final score read 7-6,7-5.

Djokovic hints at a fiery final with Alcaraz post-win in the semi-finals

Djokovic won against Zverev with ease in the semi-final match of the Cincinnati Masters 2023. With the win, he cemented his clash with the World No. 1, a face-off which is one the tennis fans look out for. The two had clashed earlier at the finals in Wimbledon, where 20-year-old Carlos Alcaraz managed to beat the defending champion, making history in the process. The Spaniard became the only person to clinch the Wimbledon title out of Djokovic’s hands for the first time ever since 2014.

Post his win over Zverev, Novak went over to the camera to write “Fireworks, Yeah” with a smiley face at the end. The Serbian tennis star hinted at a fiery face-off with the World No. 1. He appears to be confident of his win as his words indicated his confidence before the finals.
