Former Serbian tennis player Radmilo Armenulic thinks that the World No. 2 Novak Djokovic has done the mistake of taking a long break after Wimbledon. According to him, the short preparation will make it harder for the Serbian to clinch his 4th US Open title this year. He also gave insights on Djokovic’s main opponents on the tour now and how they can dismantle the Serbian.

Elaborating on why he thinks Djoker has committed an error, Armenulic said, “Personally, I think that the period without tennis was long for him, He should have played a smaller tournament, he didn’t pick up a racket since Wimbledon. It’s good that he’s playing doubles in Cincinnati, but it’s still a short preparation. We’ll see how he plays the singles.”

He continued on his chances at the US Open, “They finally let him play, they should have done that last year as well. He will have a tough tournament. Especially since he is always expected to either enter the finals or win the tournament. He is constantly under pressure. Now his biggest rivals will be Carlos Alcaraz, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Daniil Medvedev, candidates to win tournaments.” (H/T: Daily Express)

The Serbian star Novak Djokovic has a 3-6 record in the finals of the US Open. This stat makes this Grand Slam his worst slam despite winning the title thrice. He also trails Rafael Nadal, his biggest rival in the titles here. Nadal has won 4 US Open titles, one more than him. Adding to that, he has a losing head-to-head 1-2 against Nadal here.

With Nadal’s absence this year due to a hip injury, the Serbian will be trying to grab his chances with both hands. This year, his greatest rival is expected to be another Spaniard, current World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz. The 20-year-old star has given Djokovic a hard loss in the Wimbledon finals a month back. The Serbian legend will be trying to get an act of revenge here in the flushing meadows.
