Tennis and the never-ending debate about its GOAT has once again taken over social media as Serbian tennis ace and 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic is dubbed as the last-standing GOAT.
As a renowned journalist declared that the 36-year-old is clear of the other two players who are often dubbed as the true GOATs of tennis, Roger Federer fans got riled up. With this came personal attacks on the Serbian. As it has been the case since 2021, Novak Djokovic was once again targeted over his anti-vaccination stance.
A Roger Federer fan who runs their X account by the username ‘Fednanen’ claimed that Djokovic played in the weakest era of tennis and hence sits atop with 24 Grand Slam titles to his credit. The user further claimed that Djokovic waited till his ‘main rivals’ retired so that he could pile up titles.
He’s not the goat - the antivaxxer just vultured the weakest era in the history of tennis, waited until his main rivals retired to stat padThe Roger Federer fan posted on X.
Not just one but there were plenty of such posts launching personal attacks and not acknowledging Novak Djokovic’s achievements. A few of them have been attached below.
Novak Djokovic vs Roger Federer- A quick comparison!
While there is no doubt that Roger Federer revolutionized tennis and dominated the charts early in the 2000s, Novak Djokovic has also achieved a certain level of dominance in the past decade. The Serbian is defying the concept of aging by getting better with every passing day.
Novak Djokovic has already piled up 24 Grand Slam titles and leads Roger Federer by as many as four titles. Even in the head-to-head record, Djokovic leads the Swiss maestro 27-23. However, it is worth mentioning that up until 2010, Djokovic had a head-to-head record of 6-13 against Federer. But it picked up in his favor after that.
In 2011 and 2012, Djokovic dominated Federer across tournaments as he won seven out of ten matches played against him. Between 2013 and 2015, Novak Djokovic defeated Roger Federer in ten out of the sixteen matches played between them. These wins included beating Federer three times in ATP Finals final and three times in a Grand Slam final.
While Djokovic steered clear of Roger Federer’s Grand Slam titles count a long ago, the Serbian recently left Federer behind in terms of most ATP Finals titles. The 36-year-old has now seven titles as compared to Federer’s six. Even in terms of most tour-level titles won, Djokovic trails by only five titles.
