Novak Djokovic demolished the current World No.3, Daniil Medvedev following a thrilling encounter in the final-round match at the 2023 US Open on Sunday. Despite his loss, the Russian managed to impress his Serbian opponent. Novak praised Medvedev for his personality post-match in his winner’s speech.

The 36-year-old demolished Medvedev over 3 sets with a score of 6-3, 7-6, 6-3. Although the 27-year-old gave Djokovic a hard time, forcing him into playing longer rallies. This challenge, however, did not deter Novak as he stayed focused throughout the match, keeping his eyes fixed on the prize.

After winning the tournament and paying tribute to the late Basketball legend and one of the Serb’s closest friends, Kobe Bryant, he acknowledged Daniil for his authenticity and showered the Russian with praises. “You will win more Slams, no doubt,” Novak assured Medvedev. He further claimed that he believed that the Russian had the most authentic personality. “Never change with your celebrations, with your comments, I love it,” Novak told the 27-year-old.

Novak Djokovic won his 24th Grand Slam at the Arthur Ashe Stadium on Sunday. He surpassed Serena Williams‘ record of 23 Grand Slam Majors to rival Margaret Court’s tally of the same number of Majors in singles.

Daniil Medvedev lost to Novak Djokovic at the Finals of the US Open. The two had previously clashed 2 years back for the Finals in 2021. That night was something quite special for Medvedev as he won his first Major, defeating Djokovic in Arthur Ashe. The Russian won in straight sets, scoring 6-4 in each of the three sets.

After losing the finals against one of his best rivals, Medvedev said, “This stadium is special. I came here and thought I want to play good here, I wanted to play well and feel the energy and I did.”

I really hope I can hold that trophy again some time,” he added remembering his 2021 Championship win.
