Swedish legend Mats Wilander thinks that the Serbian World No.2 Novak Djokovic won’t be able to break Jimmy Connors‘ all-time titles record of 109. The Serbian now stands with 94 titles, the most among active players, two more than the Spanish great Rafael Nadal. The Serbian stands third on the all-time list now, second being the Swiss Maestro Roger Federer with 103 titles.

Wilander said, “Djokovic is hot on the heels on everybody’s records, but I don’t think he will reach Jimmy Connors’ record of most titles won. That will be tough for Novak to break.” In the same interview with Eurosport, he also said that the Serbian will easily go past Roger Federer’s Wimbledon record.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion is set to face American unseeded player Jordan Thompson in the second round of Wimbledon. This match is expected to be another cakewalk for the Serbian who has not many tests awaiting on a grass court, at least until the semi-finals. With Nick Kyrgios‘ withdrawal, his quarter-final opponent will be Andrey Rublev according to the projected draw.

Novak Djokovic needs 16 titles to overtake Jimmy Connors

The Serbian superstar can get past Jimmy Connors‘ record of 109 titles if he can win 16 more titles. Considering the fitness level and lack of competition on top of men’s tennis, this is not going to be a huge task for the Serbian factually. Now being in shape to even grab a calendar slam, it will not be impossible for him to win any of the 4 titles in the coming 4 seasons.

With this year’s Wimbledon title almost on the cards for him, grabbing some of the hard court ATP-1000 titles and then the US Open will be something Djokovic will be aiming at. This can get him closer to 100 titles even before the season ends. Federer‘s record of 103 will be next in target for the Serbian before reaching the magic number of 109.

Being the All-time leader of Grand Slam titles, ATP-1000 titles, and Big titles already, the Serbian will have his eyes on this record as well. If he thinks he needs to reach that, it will be hard for anyone to stop him, also considering the fact that his greatest rival, Rafael Nadal, is still out of the competition.
