Novak Djokovic says he likes competing with players younger than him as they are extra motivated and force him to play at his best. As the Serbian behind his title defense in Turin at the 2023 ATP Finals title, the Serbian has talked about being the eldest among all eight players taking part in the season-ending championships.

While admitting that his age can be of advantageous on some occasions, Djokovic revealed that playing against younger players is a challenge in itself. The 36-year-old also admitted that there is a contrast between the older and newer generations.

When asked if he is happy with the draws, Novak Djokovic said it does not matter as all are top players in the world and every game will be like the final. The Serbian said that he had no preference about who he wanted to play at the 2023 ATP Finals.

Perhaps age is an advantage in some ways, but here there is a contrast between the old and new generations… And I don't know which of the two I belong to (smiling, ed.). For me, competing with the younger ones is an extra incentive, because I know they are hungry for success and want to get to number one in the world.

Novak Djokovic excited to be back playing in Turin

Novak Djokovic who is the defending champion at the 2023 ATP Finals said that he is excited about playing in Turin as the environment here is different altogether. Lauding the fans for their passion for the sport, Djokovic called Turin a historic and beautiful city.

I really like playing in Turin. The stadium is always full, and then there is a great atmosphere of passion for tennis, in this city but also throughout Italy. We are certainly in a historic and very beautiful city, I'm sure we will have fun. I am thrilled to be able to participate in this tournament once again and to be able to compete to win it.

Novak Djokovic will meet Holger Rune in his first match in what is being seen as the rematch of the 2023 Paris Masters quarterfinal wherein the Serbian emerged victorious. Djokovic also faces local boy Jannik Sinner and Stefanos Tsitsipas in his remaining two group-stage matches. The 36-year-old is expected to make it to the semis.

If Djokovic manages to reach the final and eventually goes on to win the title, he will get his name etched in the history books as the player with the most ATP Finals titles. Also, the Serbian will secure an eighth year-end No.1 ranking of his career.
