Novak Djokovic progressed into the finals of the 2023 US Open, as he defeated Ben Shelton in the semifinals in straight sets. This is the fifth consecutive Grand Slam final appearance for the Serbian, and 36th overall. He will face Daniil Medvedev in the finals on Sunday, who got the better of Carlos Alcaraz in four sets.
Novak Djokovic was not pleased with Ben Shelton’s behavior during their semifinal clash, which explains their cold handshake at the net. Generally, the second seed is pretty gracious in his post-match handshakes, as he takes a couple of seconds to speak with his opponent. However, in this instance, he had a quick handshake with the youngster without exchanging greetings.
Ben Shelton’s attitude during the match was certainly questionable. After winning the match, Novak Djokovic mimicked the American’s celebration, which explains his frustration towards his opponent.

Novak Djokovic hardly broke any sweat in the semifinals, as Ben Shelton was outplayed in the opening two sets. The Serbian was tested in the final set, however, he held his nerve in the tiebreaker. The American has received criticism for his behavior during the past two weeks at the 2023 US Open.
Novak Djokovic hit back at the 20-year-old by mimicking his celebration, right after booking a place in the finals of the 2023 US Open. The Serbian has had a pretty straightforward run into the finals, with his only challenge coming in the form of Laslo Djere in the third round.
He came back from two sets down to defeat his fellow Serbian and continue on his quest to claim a third Grand Slam title this season. The 36-year-old will look to avenge his defeat at the 2021 US Open as he faces Daniil Medvedev in the finals. The Russian handed him a straight-sets defeat in the finals two years ago, which denied him the chance to win a Calendar Slam.
