Serbian tennis legend and five-time champion at the Indian Wells Novak Djokovic registered his first win after his comeback as he played in his second-round match at the 2024 Indian Wells on Day 4. The 24-time Grand Slam champion winning his first match of this year’s tournament remained the highlight of the day.
Apart from Djokovic, Iga Swiatek, Daniil Medvedev, Holger Rune, and Taylor Fritz also had successful outings. All three players comfortably won their second-round matches. While Swiatek eased past Danielle Collins, Medvedev found no problem in defeating Roberto Carballes Baena.

Taylor Fritz, meanwhile, took some time before he eventually toppled Alejandro Tabilo. Madison Keys and Tommy Paul were the other Americans who sailed into the third round. Meanwhile, there were a couple of upsets as well. Ons Jabeur and Jelena Ostapenko could not win their respective matches and hence bowed out.
2024 Indian Wells Day 4 Highlights
Novak Djokovic win his comeback match at Indian Wells in three sets
Novak Djokovic’s return to Indian Wells was a much-talked-about thing than anything else and the Serbian justified all the hype as he won his first match at the Masters tournament in three sets. Although it was not among Djokovic’s best wins, the 36-year-old will carry the confidence forward.

The Serbian beat Australia’s Aleksandar Vukic in three sets to enter the third round. Djokovic won the first set comfortably (6-2). However, the Serbian failed to save the second set and lost it 7-5. In the decider, however, Djokovic came back roaring and claimed it 6-3.
Jelena Ostpaenko and Ons Jabeur fail to impress
It was yet another subpar performance from Tunisian tennis Ons Jabeur who bowed out of the tournament after losing to Katie Volynets. The two-time Wimbledon finalist lost to the American in straight sets of 4-6, 4-6. This was the second such performance from Jabeur where she lost to a lower-ranked player in straight sets. The Tunisian was ousted from the 2024 Australian Open after losing to Mirra Andreeva.

Meanwhile, Latvian Jelena Ostapenko suffered a similar fate. The only difference here was that Ostapenko lost in three sets. Germany’s Angelique Kerber got the best out of Ostapenko as the Latvian was defeated 7-5, 3-6, 3-6. The tenth seed found herself all over the place in the last two sets and ended up conceding the match.
Hubert Hurkacz suffers an early exit at Gael Monfils steals the show
The men’s singles event also witnessed an upset as eighth seed Hubert Hurkacz was taken down by veteran Gael Monfils in three sets. The Polish tennis star got a bagel in the first set.

While Hurkacz tried to stage a comeback by clinching the second set in a tiebreaker, Monfils stunned the youngster with a flurry of winners in the third set. The Frenchman won 6-0, 5-7, 6-2.
