The final match between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz was an absolute must-see. After almost 4 hours of intense play, Djokovic managed to save a championship point and secure a 5-7, 7-6(7), 7-6(4) victory at the Cincinnati Open finals on Sunday.
Alcaraz had Djokovic constantly on the move, and victory seemed within his grasp, with a chance to secure a straight-set win. Yet, a single falter in Alcaraz’s service game shifted the momentum, leading to a transformation in the match’s dynamics. Ultimately, the Serb emerged triumphant in a three-set battle.
The Djokovic vs. Alcaraz match is now hailed as the session’s best. It’s also the longest ATP Tour’s best-of-three final (since 1990). At the beginning, Djokovic struggled with the heat, initially seeming defeated as he fell behind by a set and a break. Despite this, he fought back and managed to force a final set.
Alcaraz managed to fend off four match points in the last set, but in the end, he couldn’t secure the win. Djokovic achieved his Wimbledon revenge and now regards this match as the toughest of his career.
During the post-match press conference, Djokovic said, “Boy, you never give up man.” Christ Jesus. I love that about you, but sometimes I wish you play a few points like this.”
Then the 20-year-old came up with the perfect response, saying, “Spanish never die.” Djokovic smiled and added, “Okay, I’ve heard that before, or I’ve experienced this before. Maybe not like this or maybe yes I don’t know, I really don’t know anymore”
Djokovic subtly alluded to Rafael Nadal, his long-time rival, with whom he’s engaged in numerous challenging and prolonged battles throughout his career.
Will Novak Djokovic continue his winning streak?

Following his latest achievement, Novak Djokovic aspires to press forward on his journey and secure the record for the most Grand Slam titles ever. With 23 Grand Slams already under his belt, he remains resolute in his pursuit of further victories. A potential victory at the US Open could see him not only regain the world number one ranking but also potentially surpass Roger Federer as the oldest player to hold that ranking.
Despite a limited preparation time in the United States, Djokovic’s return after a two-year absence has been nothing short of legendary. If he manages a strong recovery before the upcoming Grand Slam, his prospects of winning are promising. To secure victory, he’ll need to maintain his consistency and deliver a standout performance, especially since the other top ten players will be vying for his position.
