The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) has been under the firing radar of many players for their recent incompetence in replying to the player’s concerns about the increased rate of injuries due to frequent changes in balls. In recent times Novak Djokovic, the Serbian has emerged as one of the most vocal advocates for player welfare in tennis. Players have recently been complaining about the consequences of frequent ball changes and Djokovic gives his views on the ongoing controversy.
“There is certainly a connection between frequent injuries of the wrist, elbow, & shoulder with ball changes. I am absolutely in favor of choosing one ball with which we will play all ATP tournaments. It is different & more difficult with the Grand Slams because each of the biggest tournaments we play, negotiates separately which sponsor they will have for the balls, but this also happens on the ATP tour,” said Djokovic in an interview via Sportal.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion speaks in favor of the players and calls out the ATP to resolve the matter of frequent change in balls. “Sometimes that change of balls happens three times in three weeks depending on where we play, & it affects the health of the players & the joints themselves. In that sense, I support the players complaining & asking the ATP to find a way to resolve it. They have to find a solution,“ said the 2023 US Open winner.
Novak Djokovic unhappy with the ignorance of the ATP management
Serbian Pro Novak Djokovic joins other tennis players to call out the ATP to look into the matter of frequent ball changes. Since there has been no proper response from the committee, Novak expressed his disappointment as well. “I didn’t see that the ATP issued any statement regarding the player’s complaints, & these are things that are incomprehensible to me,” said Djokovic.
The Serb is unhappy that the ATP has not stated anything despite big names in tennis openly speaking about the problem. He said that there was a lack of proper communication between the council and the players which should improve. “Likewise, it should be publicly announced that they have received this information & are working on it, in the sense that they will see how they can find a solution that is acceptable. Silence will not change anything,” concluded Novak Djokovic.
