World No.1, Novak Djokovic is competing in the All-Star match at the Ryder Cup in Rome. He has kept the tennis racket down and picked up the golf clubs as he takes a well-deserved break from tennis. He is playing alongside many stars of other sports like Gareth Bale and Carlos Sainz. Djokovic and Kipp Popert are playing together in the same team.

In a recent interview, Novak Djokovic revealed how he felt after receiving an invitation to feature in the Ryder Cup and how he started practicing golf soon after. He talked about his love for the sport and further added, ” When I got an invite, I was like oh my god, I got to accept this. I got a bit prepared. Cannot embarrass myself, cannot hit someone in the head, because we don’t want that… I have no insurance.”

Novak Djokovic discussed how he had not played the sport in a long time. However, upon receiving the invite, he increased the frequency of playing golf so as to prepare for this tournament. He stated, “I started to train a bit more. I got lessons and yeah.. when you become a father you have less time. I haven’t played much gold in the last six years, but I increased the amount of golf I’ve played in the last 6 months, especially in the last 10 days.”

The 24-time Grand Slam Champion also thanked the Ryder Cup for hosting him and his team. He expressed his delight for having been invited to such a prestigious tournament and said that he was thrilled to be a part of it.

Novak Djokovic will only play selected tournaments in the remaining season

The US Open Champion is taking a much-needed rest from tennis in order to clear his mind and body for the remaining season. In the meanwhile, he is participating in fun events like the Ryder Cup in Rome. He has already announced his schedule for the upcoming season.

Novak Djokovic will not compete in the China Open this year. He said he would be taking a break to save his energy for the bigger and more important tournaments. The Serb had already led his nation to the quarter-finals of the Davis Cup. He will next be seen on court playing at the Paris Masters in October.
