Novak Djokovic, one of the favorites at the Australian Open has been motoring through the rounds, winning every match in style. Despite being on a winning streak, the Serbian finds himself amidst the controversy.

The World No.1 was up against Adrian Mannarino in the fourth round of the Australian Open. Having found his rhythm during the match, the Serbian played many exceptional shots to win the first set 6-0. Replicating the same performance, Djokovic took a mighty 6-0,6-0 lead against the Frenchman. Despite cruising through the match, he got a time violation for delaying his service, which the audience cheered for. This triggered the Serbian who seemed frustrated by the crowd.

The frustration of Djokovic at the crowd made it seem like an arrogant player who was unhappy despite a double bagel. Having noticed Djokovic’s frustration, the fans took it online to troll him more. “ He’s a pompous privileged prick,” tweeted a user on X. Adding to this were many mixed reactions where the majority of the fans diffused the situation, while others blamed Djokovic for his attitude.

While Djokovic can be a crowd’s favorite, he is equally hated by them and often can be affected by their chants and trash talk. In the 2024 Australian Open itself, Djokovic has had to face the crowd in all the matches. From swearing at the crowd during his first-round match to calling out a heckler in his third-round match, the Serbian has caused quite a storm over the internet.

His latest attitude continues that streak as the fans online get to work again. There were a plethora of reactions, as fans picked their side in this matter. Nonetheless, Djokovic is still the favorite of the tournament and has many supporters cheering for him during the match. Continuing his quest for another successful title defense, the No.1 seed finds himself in a quarter-final match against the highly skilled Taylor Fritz.
