Novak Djokovic declares intention to make history at every tournament as he chases Rafael Nadal’s Grand Slam haul
The Serbian legend has revealed his goals ahead of the Australian Open

During a recent press conference, 21-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic revealed that he aims to go for the win at every tournament. The Serbian legend said that at this stage of his career, every tournament offers a chance for him to write more history. For those unitiated, Djokovic is currently behind Rafael Nadal in all-time Grand Slam titles won.
World Number 5 Djokovic is currently in Adelaide and has already started his practice sessions for the 2023 Adelaide Open. The tournament will kick off on 1st January and will be ideal preparation for the upcoming 2023 Australian Open. Djokovic has his eyes firmly set on winning the tournament, in which he is the most successful.
He said, ‘The goal is to reach the top in Melbourne, that’s where I want to give my best. I think that at this stage of my career, with all my successes, each victory in a big tournament is a chance to write a little more history. Of course, that makes me very humble. It’s a great challenge, but it’s also a great motivation. I don’t lack inspiration and motivation to play my best tennis.”
Djokovic will be keen to make a mark at this edition of the Australian Open, having been deprived of a chance to participate last time out. He was forced to withdraw after being deported from Australia last year due to his unvaccinated status. The experience was a painful one for Novak Djokovic. He is however excited to be back in the country and looking to win big.
The 2022 Wimbledon winner will be looking to equal rival Nadal’s haul of 22 Grand Slam titles. With Roger Federer retiring, either Djokovic or Nadal will finish their career with the most Open victories of all time. Djokovic will be in action as the 5th seed looking to add to his Australian Open haul.

Novak Djokovic’s record at the Australian Open
Djokovic has been the most successful Australian Open player of all time. The Serbian has won 9 Australian Open titles, including the last three he participated in. This streak unfortunately ended in 2022. The hard outdoor surfaces of the Rod Laver Arena are sure to bring him joy again.
Having a 9-0 record in the Australian Open finals, Djokovic’s dominance is clear. His all-action style has won him plenty of fans and accolades in Australia. Considered one of the best players ever on hard surfaces, Djokovic will be keen to leave no doubt about his status. With the Australian Open being the first Grand Slam title of his career, the Slam is surely close to his heart.
