Novak Djokovic is one of the most influential people in his country. The Serbian ace, with his achievements in tennis, has developed a massive fan following and those fans have turned into his supporters due to his philanthropic work. As Djokovic runs multiple NGOs and works for the betterment of people from all verticals, he was asked if it comes with a political motive.
Djokovic was quick to deny any such claim, saying that he has no such inspiration behind the philanthropic work he does for the country’s people. The 24-time Grand Slam winner also pointed out that he would not fit in politics and hence the question about him choosing the path goes out, anyway.
During his latest interview with CBS, the Serbian was asked if he aims to make use of the support he has in Belgrade to win polls to which Djokovic laughed and took a subtle dig at the interviewer for putting words in his mouth. The Serbian then cleared the air saying his philanthropic works are inspired by the will to help people and have no hidden motives.
I do not have any political inspirations at the moment. I don’t think this is a world or an environment where I would thrive. But I do think that my popularity in the country and in the region can be used for some other things where I can help and contribute to life and society.Novak Djokovic clarified
What does Novak Djokovic Foundation do?
Novak Djokovic is running multiple non-profit organizations. Among them, the Novak Djokovic Foundation is the most talked about. The organization which was founded by Djokovic and his wife Jelena in 2007 aims at making early education accessible to every child in Serbia.
The Novak Djokovic Foundation works on similar lines as the Roger Federer Foundation. The only difference between the two organizations is the region where they operate. While the Novak Djokovic Foundation is focused on bettering the lives of Serbian children, the Roger Federer Foundation operates in the African region.
Nevertheless, both of them strive to make quality early education easily accessible to deprived children. The organization claims to have built 55 preschools so far. The foundation has impacted the lives of as many as 53,691 children and about 8670 parents have received support from the Novak Djokovic Foundation.
While Jelena Djokovic mainly manages the operations, the Serbian devotes time to the children associated with the foundation whenever he gets a chance. Djokovic also ensures that he promotes the cause as and when he gets a chance.
