The Serbian World No.1 Novak Djokovic was forced to defend Spanish World No.2 Carlos Alcaraz on the latter’s decision to skip Davis Cup amidst Spain’s early exit in the Davis Cup. For context, the 36-year-old Djokovic is playing for Serbia in this year’s Davis Cup and the younger Spaniard skipped this tournament which has welcomed a lot of backlashes to the latter.

As Novak Djokovic said about how he felt about getting tired playing in a lot of tournaments, “I also haven’t played the whole 20 years of my career for Serbia. It’s normal seeing years where you play a lot of individual events where you feel tired, you feel a lot of things about your career. Also your private life. it’s normal skipping a competition.

The Davis Cup, which is said to have running in its last legs, has hit an actual blow this year since the Davis Cup finals’ host nation Spain was knocked out of the tournament in the group stage itself. It is none other than Novak Djokovic’s Serbia that humiliated an inexperienced Spain side in the Davis Cup group stage by a scoreline of 3-0.

World No.2 Carlos Alcaraz was expected to be playing in this year’s Davis Cup for Spain but the plans have changed with his loss to Russian World No.3 Daniil Medvedev in the US Open semi-final. Spain Captain David Ferrer was also disappointed in losing a vital player like Alcaraz in this year’s Davis Cup which was also being played in their home nation.

Ferrer also added that playing in Davis Cup after the US Open is hard for many players but his expectation was to bring the best from the players available to him. But now with the exit of Spain, Ferrer and the whole nation must have been disappointed with everything that happened around the tournament this year.
