Novak Djokovic demolishes Diego Schwartzman to reach the French Open quarterfinal for the record 16th time

Novak Djokovic trounced Diego Schwartzman the 2020 French Open semifinalist in the fourth round in straight sets. He beat Schwartzman 6-1, 6-3, 6-3 and will face the winner of Rafael Nadal vs Felix Auger Aliassime in the quarterfinals. Djokovic had started the year with a nasty incident and it took him quite some time to get back to his dominant best. He set foot in Paris with the Italian Open 2022 title and a lot of confidence.
Diego Schwartzman is a clay-court specialist and a very dangerous player when in shape. Djokovic easily dismantled Schwartzman to win the match very quickly. He reached the quarterfinals of Roland Garros for the 13th consecutive time. This is an ominous sign for the whole field as the world number 1 is stamping his authority and presenting himself as easily the biggest favorite to defend his title at the French Open 2022.

Novak Djokovic expects to face Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals at Roland Garros
Novak Djokovic had to work through the second set to come back down from 1-3 to win the set 6-3. But after that, it was smooth sailing for the world number 1 and he would be really motivated for one of the biggest challenges an expected encounter with the 13-time French Open champion, Rafael Nadal.
Novak greatly appreciated his opponent Diego Schwartzman in the on-court interview. He said:
“I have got great respect for Diego Schwartzman, he’s a great person on and off the court. I am happy but I want to congratulate him for his tournament and wish him a lot of success for the rest of the season”
About the conditions of the match, Djokovic said: “There was not much bounce on the court today, so, I think I found the right moments each time.”
On the topic of being the defending champion and his proceedings in the French Open 2022, he said: “Yes! I am on the right way, I agree. The tournament is not over, I have to work a lot, but I am very happy to be where I am today”
Novak Djokovic will be ready for the quarterfinal battle as he moves closer to defending his title at Stade Roland Garros.
