There is no dearth of supporters for World No. 1 Novak Djokovic. If anything, the Serb’s fan following has increased following his historic 23rd Grand Slam title victory at the French Open last week. Now a new name has been added to the ever-growing list of admirers of Djokovic: former British No. 1 Andrew Castle.

Castle, who has played against legendary players like Boris Becker, Bjorn Borg, Pete Sampras, and so on, believes that the way Djokovic decimates his opponents is second to none. The Brit feels that what Djokovic does on the court is just ‘awesome’ and better than any man could ever do. In an interview with the Express, Castle called the ‘dismantling’ of opponents by the 36-year-old “wondrous’.

With Novak, what you’ve got is a core, a substantive core of game that… it’s an excellence that I’ve never seen before. And you know, I’ve served to Andre Agassi, played Becker and Sampras, and even Borg and Fred Perry at times. It’s been great. But to see Novak Djokovic play, compete, and dismantle opponents is quite wondrous. So, you know, I hope I convey my admiration, and he’s just awesome,” said Castle, who is clearly in awe of Djokovic’s greatness.

In his otherworldly career so far, one of the very few records that Djokovic has yet to achieve is winning a calendar Grand Slam, a very rare feat in tennis. However, this year looks like a golden opportunity for the Serbs to accomplish that dream too.

Already emerging triumphant at the Australian Open and Roland Garros, Djokovic looks like a firm favorite again to emerge victorious at the Wimbledon Championships. If he does so, then the Serbian great will be only a step away from a record that has been achieved by only five players, male or female, in the history of the sport.
