It’s been over a month since Novak Djokovic‘s shock and disastrous loss against Carlos Alcaraz at the Wimbledon Championships. The loss brought an end to his five-year reign at the All England Club’s grass court and he was severely bashed by many fans for the fans believed that his approach towards the match was quite casual and that he lacked determination throughout the game.
Djokovic has talked about the defeat ahead of the Cincinnati Masters starting Monday and how much disappointed he was after the loss. When asked about his time away from tennis and if he has got over that defeat, he said, “It’s not the first [nor] the last match that I lost, so I was over it in a day. Obviously, I needed some really good rest after that, and some time with my family, and that’s what I did. So, of course, I was regretting not using the chances during that final.”
He also praised Carlos for his performance on the day and how he was the rightful winner at the end of the five-set thrilling encounter. He added, “It was a close match, but well deserved from his side, because to win he played better in the important moments, and that’s what I said after the final. I think he was a deserved winner and that’s it really, pretty much. You move on.”
Will Novak Djokovic end the year with 3 Grand Slam titles?
Djokovic started the year with a bang lifting his 21st career Grand Slam at the Australian Open and was well poised for making the dream of winning a calendar Grand Slam possible. He went on to win the Roland Garros as well keeping his dream alive and everyone hoped that this year would be his. But at the Wimbledon Championships, which is by far the favorite tournament of the Serbian, he tasted defeat at the hands of a 20-year-old Spaniard.
Watching his dream getting shattered yet again which was by far his best opportunity and also very possibly his last one considering he is already 36 years old, he took time off from tennis to get one or two things right. Now having returned to the court and after beginning his preparations for the last Grand Slam of the year, the US Open, he is focused to end the year with three Slams and revenge against the defending champion, Alcaraz.
