Novak Djokovic was given a grand reception by the people of Belgrade upon his return to his hometown after winning his 24th Grand Slam title at the 2023 US Open. He was given a reception on the Belgrade City Hall balcony alongside the Serbian basketball team, who were the runners-up of the 2023 FIBA World Championship.
The Serbian was seen breaking down after seeing all the love that he received during the reception, and the Serbian basketball players consoled him. Later, the 36-year-old revealed the reason for his breakdown. He said that before he left for the US Open, the Belgrade Union dedicated a song to him. They sang it again today, and he then realized that the Serbian basketball players knew the lyrics by heart as well.
“Before I left, the Belgrade union performed a song that they dedicated to me, I knew this song, but I didn’t know that the basketball players knew the words of this song, and when I saw that they were singing, when I saw the energy of these people singing this song, it was too moving for me,” said the 4-times US Open champion.
Novak Djokovic’s brilliant display in the 2023 US Open has just extended his lead as the unanimous GOAT (greatest of all time) of tennis. His stats are way better than anyone ever, and it will take generations to break this record.
Novak Djokovic joins the Serbian Davis Cup team

Just a few days after defeating Daniil Medvedev in the final of the US Open 2023 at Queens, Novak Djokovic has joined the Serbian team for the Finals Group Stage of the Davis Cup. He is the captain of the Serbian team, and it shows how much the sport and his national team matter to Novak Djokovic. Despite being tired from all the action in the US Open, he joined the Serbian team without any break whatsoever.
On his arrival, Novak was received by the tournament director with open arms as the two embraced. Serbia has only won one Davis Cup in the past, back in 2010, and in 2013, they were the runners-up. It will be exciting to see whether 24-time Grand Slam title winner Novak Djokovic will be able to fashion something similar this season.
