The whole RAC Arena was left cheering for the young Australian Alex de Minaur after he beat the current World No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals of the United Cup. Team Serbia was up against the home team Australia and de Minaur helped his team take an early lead on the scoreboard.

Djokovic who hasn’t lost a single match in Australia for the last 6 years was finally beaten by the youngster 6-4, 6-4. The Serbian who was holding his forearm time and again was not at his best as he made plenty of unforced errors to lose his 43-match winning streak. Like a wall, Djokovic had been immovable on the courts of Australia for the last 6 years before facing a loss at the hands of an Australian.

This was a deja vu moment for the tennis enthusiasts who have witnessed Djokovic struggle to extend his winning streak past the 43rd match. The Serbian was on a dominant rampage from the 2010 Davis Cup to the 2011 Roland Garros before falling to the hands of Roger Federer.

It was at the 2011 Semifinals of the French Open where Djokovic pretty much cruised through the draw but faced a huge block in the form of Federer who beat him in 4 sets to advance to the finals where he lost to the ‘king of clay’ Rafael Nadal.

Novak Djokovic’s injury concerns worry fans before title defense at the Australian Open

Djokovic was seen struggling from pain in his forearm over the last couple of days. During his match against Alex de Minaur, the Serbian was seen treating the right forearm multiple times during the game. This comes as a huge concern for the Serbian and his camp before the Australian Open.

The Serbian was also seen taking a medical timeout during his match against the Czech Republic. For a person who has pretty much been injury-free throughout his career, except for the elbow injury back in 2018, which almost ended his career. Since then, the 37-year-old has not faced any injuries and this forearm pain comes as a concern to all the fans out there. With the Australian Open a couple of weeks away, all eyes will be on the defending champion and if he can recover just in time.
