The Sprska Open, particularly sponsored by the Novak Djokovic family in Bosnia-Herzegovina, has its tennis complex inaugurated amidst the allegations on the construction of the building and criminal cases behind it. The opening ceremony was held on April 12 and hundreds of people have reported being present on the occasion.

Djordje Djokovic, brother of Novak Djokovic, has paid a number of visits to Bosnia during the complex construction but he or the Djokovic family have never commented on the ongoing allegations or criminal cases revolving around the tournament. The ATP-250 tournament is scheduled to be started on April 16. The main criminal case against the tournament is due to the fact that the money used for construction is received by the tennis association in the form of a grant.

Djordje Djokovic gave an explanation about the ongoing allegations, “As far as we are concerned, we are the organizers of the tennis tournament. We do not deal with building permits or politics.” The tournament is really important for Novak Djokovic in terms of his tennis since the Serbian Open is canceled this year and he has to use this tournament as the preparatory one for the major clay court tournaments. The Serbian World No.1 is the only top-10 player scheduled to play in the Sprska Open apart from the Monte Carlo Masters champion Andrey Rublev. After failing to Lorenzo Musetti in the third round of the Monte Carlo Masters, Djokovic has shown some signs of an elbow injury which hampered his service motion in the match against the Italian.

As the Serbian mentioned about his injury, “It’s not ideal, but it’s good enough. I hope it will be fully ready for my first match here.” The disappointment was genuine in the words of Djokovic after the loss against Musetti as well. That loss was least expected by the fans, considering the form and experience of the Serbian superstar. But the Italian had different plans for the day.

Djokovic will be trying to build momentum in his own tournament and peak for the French Open later. His ability to cope with tough situations and injuries are second to none, so the fans are expecting the same magic from him.
