ATP has introduced a game-changing initiative ‘Baseline’ which provides financial assurances for players starting in 2024. Bulgarian tennis player Grigor Dimitrov, on this account, praised ATP for the initiative.
He said, “Baseline is a game-changer. Knowing that we have a safety net through the minimum guarantee and injury protection pillars gives us peace of mind, allowing us to focus on our game and strive for success. This truly shows the ATP’s commitment to the players and the future of our sport.” Dimitrov notably is an ATP Player Advisory Council Member. (H/T: ATP Tour)
While most fans have appreciated the move by ATP, some have questioned who actually deserves the credit for the move. Novak Djokovic fans have notably pointed out that the initiative was because of the pressure applied by PTPA to spring ATP into action. The Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA) is an association of male and female tennis players founded by the players Vasek Pospisil and Novak Djokovic.
Replying to a post explaining the ‘Baseline’ program, a Djokovic fan commented, “It’s the pressure from the competition. Nothing, I mean nothing, would have happened without PTPA. And Dimitrov is just a clown, a useful.”

Billionaire investor Bill Ackman, who has invested in PTPA, talking about the initiative, said, “It is amazing what competition from the PTPA can accomplish for all of the players. Tennis professionals have been unfairly treated for decades. It is just beginning to change thanks to leadership from the PTPA.”
Vasek Pospisil, co-founder of PTPA, remarked, “Definitely feeling the pressure from PTPA and our growing player support and unrest on the tour. Even though it’s bare minimum and near zero risk to the ATP, it’s good to see the PTPA already having a positive effect this early on.” Like Pospisil, many tennis fans credited the PTPA for the initiative. Here are some reactions:-
Recently the PTPA added Kim Clijsters, Sania Mirza, and Marcos Baghdatis to its team. Clijsters and Mirza join the PTPA as its first Board of Champions members. Baghdatis joined the PTPA as an ambassador.
