Shohei Ohtani has won the Associated Press’ Male Athlete of the Year for the second time in three years. The MLB sensation from Japan pulled out another superb season for his team, the Los Angeles Angels. Besides, he has also performed superbly for his national team in the World Baseball Classic.

While Ohtani received 20 out of 87 votes, the tennis maestro Novak Djokovic and football wizard Lionel Messi received 16 votes each. Meanwhile, NBA star Nikola Jokic received 12 votes.

As the tennis World No.1 lost the 2023 AP Male Athlete of the Year to Shohei Ohtani, fans have reacted angrily to this choice of section. They have expressed their outrage that Djokovic didn’t win the award despite having one of the best seasons of his career. This season led him to win three major Grand Slam titles. Besides, Nole also won the ATP Finals and reached the finals of the Wimbledon.

Djokovic won a total of seven titles this season. Even after winning this impressive number of titles, Djokovic was ignored from winning the award. However, this hasn’t been the first time this has happened to him this year. He was not even nominated for the Prestigious Sportsmanship Award earlier this season.
