American alpine ski racer and Olympic champion Lindsey Vonn stirred controversy as she declared Swiss tennis maestro Roger Federer as the tennis GOAT. While Vonn calling Federer the GOAT was not an issue for a few, a large section of fans felt offended as the ski racer included “no matter what the statistics say” in her statement.
Although Vonn took down the post and also explained what she meant when she declared Federer as the GOAT, quite a few fans did not look in the mood to spare her. Mostly, Novak Djokovic‘s fans hit back at the Olympic champion by mocking her for weak explanation and defense.
A user went on to copy her statement where she said about not caring about statistics as they declared Djokovic as the GOAT of clay courts.
No matter what the statistics say, you, Novak Djokovic @DjokerNole, are my CLAY GOAT forever. Because it's not about the stats but the impact you've made on me, and I'm just one of millions. Cheers my friend. The user wrote on X.
Nevertheless, a few others also joined in to mock Vonn for her comments. Check out a few similar posts.
Lindsey Vonn fuels the tennis GOAT debate yet again
As Lindsey Vonn called Roger Federer the epitome of a true sportsman and declared that the Swiss maestro is the tennis GOAT, she triggered a large section of fans who believe otherwise. While many agree that Federer revolutionized tennis to an extent, a huge number of tennis fans don’t agree about the 20-time Grand Slam champion being the GOAT.
With Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic winning more titles than Federer, their fans certainly believe that these two are ahead of Federer. Meanwhile, between Djokovic and Nadal, the Serbian ace has won 24 Grand Slam titles as compared to Nadal’s 22, and hence Djokovic fans believe he is the GOAT.
The Serbian winning the most number of ATP Finals titles also tilts the meter in his favor. Nevertheless, this tennis GOAT debate has been going on forever and despite many experts declaring their best pick, fans continue to argue. Now, Vonn declaring Federer as the tennis GOAT only gave tennis fans something to start the discussion yet again.
