World number 1 Novak Djokovic, had a smooth transition from singles to team games. He is currently playing at the Davis Cup for his team and won the first match. Serbia was up against Great Britain in the quarter-finals and after a dominating start, Djokovic was able to see Britain out of the tournament.
He won 6-4 6-4 against Cameron Norrie pretty easily. However, it was not that easy for the Serbian before the match. He was left furious with the Davis Cup authorities after being forced to undergo a Doping Test hours before his quarter-final clash. A furious Djokovic had the following to say after the match:
I haven't done a complete doping control yet, I had yet to draw blood. A man sits in the corner, he follows me for hours. I had a discussion with him because, in 20 years of my career, it didn't happen to me before.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion continued:
I received a notification an hour and a half before the match. I have my routine and I don't need to be distracted. To think about drawing blood, to think about whether I will be able to give a sample of urine... A completely illogical decision.
Doping cases in the sport have increased and the authorities are doing their best to keep it under control.
Novak Djokovic furious with the Davis Cup authorities
Novak Djokovic, the Serbian star recently helped his team get past the quarter-final clash against Great Britain but behind the scenes, the 36-year-old was left unhappy because of the Davis Cup authorities. The world number 1 said:
When I spoke to the representative of the doping agency, they told me that the reason was that it would be very late after the match and also to give the other national team time to rest, but then I told them that the winner of tonight's duel will not play tomorrow.
He also clarified that he supports the testing but not before the match and hopes that the organization changes this soon. The 36-year-old said:
I don't know what to add, probably everything I say will be interpreted differently. This is outrageous. There's nothing to hide, but there are also some limits. They don't understand what's happening here. They don't understand sport, they don't understand where they are.
His concern comes after several cases and hopefully, the organizations do something about it. Serbia will now face Italy on the 25th of November, in the semi-finals.
