Novak Djokovic, World No. 1, has been an inspiration to Serbian tennis players and athletes for a long time now. His long and illustrious career has inspired an entire generation of Serbian up-and-coming young tennis players.
Recently, fellow countryman and rising tennis player Hamad Medjedovic came into the limelight as he revealed that Novak Djokovic is aiding the youngster financially, which is helping him to achieve his tennis dream. For context, Hamad has been training at the Novak Training Centre in Belgrade. Recently, he even got the opportunity to hit a few balls and train alongside the 24-time Grand Slam title champion, much to the delight of the tennis enthusiast.
In an extremely kind and sweet gesture, Novak Djokovic has been helping Hamad Medjedovic financially so that he can concentrate on the sport and not worry about his family and other issues. Basically, the 7-time Wimbledon Champion is trying to aid upcoming players in Serbia so that they do not have to face the same underlying struggles that he himself had to face while pursuing the sport of tennis.
Hamad Medjedovic started the 2023 season by being ranked outside the world’s top 250. However, the young Serbian has shown massive improvement and growth in just a short span of 10 months.
He is almost on the verge of breaking into the top 100 in the world and currently stands at the 107th rank. He was seen practicing with Novak Djokovic as the two gear up to feature at the Paris Masters in October.
Novak Djokovic first heard about Hamad Medjedovic in the French Open
Novak Djokovic first took notice of Hamad Medjedovic at the French Open, where the young Serbian qualified for the main draw but lost to Marcos Giron in a good 4-set match. Djokovic might also have taken notice of Hamad in the tournaments within the country as well.
Interestingly, after the tournament, the World No. 1 contacted Hamad and called him to train with him at his own training centre in Belgrade. With that being said, there is no denying the fact that by taking on the responsibility of the youngster’s finances, Novak Djokovic demonstrated his warm heart and empathy towards struggling players. This has also helped Hamad to concentrate more on the game, as he is close to breaking into the top 100 in the world.
