Novak Djokovic has defied all odds to become the legend he is today. In his career as a pro athlete, he has come across some great players who have gone on to challenge him with the greatest rivalries in the sport. Although his rivalry with the ‘big four’ of tennis is well-known, more recently his battles with Carlos Alcaraz are creating waves through tennis enthusiasts across the world who are intently waiting for the ‘NextGen’ players to take over.

When asked about his competition with his contemporaries, the world No. 1 said that he feels tennis is in good hands with the likes of Alcaraz. The 36-year-old also stated that he has had some exciting matches with the young Spaniard. Their finals in the French Open and the Wimbledon as well as Cincinnati Open have been very thrilling for him. However, he also mentioned that his rivalries with Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Andy Murray are also up there for him.

He said “I think tennis, definitely the future is looking good with Carlos leading that field. We’ve had some thrilling encounters. This year with the final at Wimbledon and also Roland Garros and Cincinnati – that was one of the best three-set matches I’ve ever played. It’s great for our sport there are more rivalries happening, but rivalries with Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal, particularly, and also with Andy Murray are right up there for me.”

Novak Djokovic wants to play more

Novak Djokovic has expressed his wish to play for many more years. As the tennis legend had said 36 is the new 26 he desires to play more.

At the Ryder Cup, 2023 all-stars celebrity match the Serb talked about how he would like to further his rivalry with Alcaraz and play against him for a long time. However, the 36-year-old is aware of his age and said that even though he wishes it it might not be possible. He cast some doubt on his retirement and said that he would see how things go.

He said, “Hopefully I’ll play him as many times as I played the other guys and that will mean I’ll be playing for years to come. But I doubt that, let’s see how it goes.” Currently, he is focused on the bright side of things as he spoke about the amazing year that he has had. He also shared that he would like to focus more on Grand Slams and play his best there.
