While one of the biggest tennis clashes of this year between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz were going on in the city of Cincinnati on Sunday, the high temperatures took a toll on the Serb. From the very beginning of the match, Djokovic appeared to be struggling with the soaring temperature. As the top seeds entered the second set of the tournament, Djokovic had to call the physio on court.

Djokovic was up against 20-yea -old Alcaraz in the last round of the Cincinnati Masters. The battle that went down in the finals could be described as nothing else but epic. The 36-year-old managed to beat the World No. 1 by a very small margin as the fiery battle between the two ensued.

As the clash between the two went into the second set, a physio was called on court as Novak struggled to keep going further with the match in the heat. His blood pressure was checked and Djokovic was given medicine. Before getting back to continue with the second set, Novak yelled, “I’m not going anywhere,” to the cheering crowds behind.

Novak was feeling beaten down by the heat from the first set itself. The World No. 2 was agitated and shouted to his team, asking them for a creatine drink. He took an off-court break after losing the first set. Howeve,r after calling his physio on-court, getting his pulse checked and taking medicine, Djokovic made a stunning comeback, winning the next two sets and emerging as the winner of his 39th ATP title.

Extreme weather conditions at Cincinnati affected Novak Djokovic

The finals were scheduled to be held late in the day by the tournament, but they received several complaints. This was the only match in the tournament that Djokovic was supposed to play in the day.

Despite this, fans saw the Serb struggle to get through the first set in the high temperatures in the city. He had to resort to medicines to get through the heat without letting it affect his game. Djokovic won the finals with a 5-7, 7-6(7), 7-6(4) win over the Spaniard.

On the day of the finals, the temperatures reached 35 degrees. Some weather channels reported that the real feel was actually closer to 40 degrees. The men’s singles final too eventually ended at night.
