Novak Djokovic has great admiration for both Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. The Big Three dominated male tennis for almost two decades. All three players are outstanding in their own right; however, the special quality among those players is that they respect each other and appreciate each other’s qualities.

On the sidelines of the Dubai Tennis Championships 2023, he elaborated on the importance of both his long-time rivals in his career. He also talked about how and what he learnt from both the players.

“I am aware that I am in the final stretch of my career, but I think I have the advantage of having learned a lot from my colleagues in the Big 3. I watched how Federer managed his long career and I was inspired by Nadal and his way of never giving up,” he said.

I would like people to always remember me for my dedication to tennis and the sport, for someone who constantly looked for ways to grow, to be better every day and to improve himself,” he added further.

The Serbian won his career’s 22nd Grand Slam title and tenth Australian Open title this year. With this victory, he tied with Rafael Nadal, who too, has won an equal number of Grand Slam titles. However, both players are hungry for more. But Novak Djokovic in a recent interview, also knows that though he can win more Grand Slam titles before retiring, he would not mind even if the Spaniard ended up winning more titles than him.

“Yes I would be satisfied. I would like more than my biggest rival, but look, when that moment arrives, when I have to draw the line and look back on the history of my career and what I have achieved, even if I stop here and he wins another 10 Slams, I have to be overall satisfied,” he said.

“Maybe there’s going to be a little part of me that’s going to be regretting that I haven’t had more than him, but at the end of the day, how much is enough? You know what I mean?” he continued.

While Novak Djokovic will return at Dubai Open after a month-long break post winning the Australian Open, Rafael Nadal is expected to make his comeback at the French Open.
