The 2023 US Open concluded with tennis legend Novak Djokovic defeating Daniil Medvedev in three consecutive sets. Djokovic made history by securing his 24th Grand Slam title and his fourth US Open championship. In a post-match interview, he playfully quipped that he wouldn’t retire for another 24 years, celebrating his 24th title in a lighthearted manner.
In a remarkable feat, the Serbian tennis sensation defeated Daniil Medvedev in straight sets, with scores of 6-3, 7-6(5), 6-3. This victory allowed Novak Djokovic to equal Margaret Court‘s historic record for major singles titles in a career. Djokovic’s dominance in the men’s league has been unparalleled, as he continues to break and shatter numerous records in the world of tennis.
“ Tennis is still in a good place, you know players come and go. It will be the same kind of destiny for me. Eventually, one day, I’ll leave tennis in about 23 to 24 years,” laughed Novak.
Players like Medvedev are waiting for the Serb to retire, but the 36-year-old has other plans of playing till his body allows him to. Previously, Novak shut down speculations of his retirement, saying that he would retire once he gets his “ A** kicked by younger players”.
Djokovic’s win against Medvedev isn’t just another trophy on the cabinet but shows the dedication the 36-year-old has towards the game to consistently enter the finals of major Grand Slams and win most of them. This US Open win marks his 3rd Grand Slam win of the year for the 4th time.

Djokovic’s win makes it his 4th win in New York after being unable to play for a couple of years. Laughing away a joke about retiring after another 24 years on the back of his 24th Grand Slam win speaks volumes about his faith and capabilities, making him a trusted figure in the world of tennis.
