Carlos Alcaraz went head-to-head against Novak Djokovic in the finals of the Cincinnati Masters on Sunday. The two clashed in an epic showdown. However, the Serb went off balance in the middle of the match due to a technical glitch by Hawkeye and he lost the set.

Djokovic and Alcaraz were up against each other in a fiery match on the stadium grounds on Sunday. There was much anticipation about who could be the winner since the clash between the two was nail-bitingly close. In the first set, Djokovic tasted defeat due to a lot of factors other than Carlos’s fierce gameplay. The Serb not only had to battle the extreme heat due to soaring high temperatures in the city, but he also faced a technical glitch.

The tension was at its peak in the first set when the two top seeds were engaged in a rally and were 4-4 against each other. This is when due to a technical glitch by Hawkeye, Novak was left flustered and lost his focus as the system pointed out a “fault” during a rally. The umpire then, called out for a replay.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a fault at a Tennis Tournament. Last week at the Canadian Open Jessica Pegula’s match with Iga Swiatek was interrupted by the song, “Cotton Eye Joe”.

Novak Djokovic regains his footing after loss in the first set

In the final match of the Tournament with Carlos Alcaraz, the Spaniard went on to win the first set. Loss in the first set forced Novak Djokovic to make an epic comeback in order to win against the World No. 1. Djokovic had to defend a match point in the second set as Alcaraz tried his level best to prevent the Serb from doing so. Novak finally succeeded and a third set was played.

In the third set, Alcaraz tried saving a match point. Eventually, the 36-year-old succeeded and managed to secure a win in the Masters. He beat the Spaniard to 5-7, 7-6, 7-6 in three sets.

The Serb got his revenge after Alcaraz beat the 23 Grand Slams holder at Wimbledon Finals merely a month prior to their latest clash. The two are going to be the top players to look out for in the upcoming US Open 2023.
