Tennis legend baffled by ‘wild times in men’s tennis’ as Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev are not allowed play due to ‘unbelievable decisions’

Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev

The Australian Open has certainly made headlines for the right and the wrong reasons. While Rafael Nadal created history by winning his 21st Grand Slam; World no. 1 Novak Djokovic made headlines even before the tournament began by not being able to compete, due to not taking the covid- 19 vaccine that was mandatory for all players. This led to the 20-time Grand Slam winner not being able to participate in the Australian Open, and for all, we know he could have been the one to create history.

While that was acceptable to a certain level, as covid was at its peak and vaccination was mandatory, Daniil Medvedev, not being able to compete due to his nationality is extremely disturbing. Due to the Russia-Ukraine war which is only showing signs of escalating, the players are not able to compete in a prestigious tournament like the Grand Slam.

Tennis is a sport that should be able to allow players to showcase their individual talent and shine, but clearly, that is not going to be happening this season.

With Wimbledon banning Russian and Belarusian players to play, there are chances that other players might boycott Wimbledon. While Wimbledon reasons that they are merely doing it to stop Russia in their own way, the truth is that it is restricting for players to shine and miss the opportunities to become budding stars.

In the case of Djokovic though, the situation is understandable as the pandemic was at an all-time high, and not getting vaccinated could prove dangerous for everyone. Hence it is debatable as to what was being done to the 20-time Grand Slam winner was the right choice of action or not.

However, in Daniil Medvedev’s case, most of the world agrees with the unfair and partial treatment of the Russians and Belarusians and many go so far as to say that this wouldn’t have been the case if it was the US or UK. We really hope that Wimbledon will reconsider the decision, as it will lead to dire consequences.

Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev; are the two great stars who have so much to prove yet. But the truth is that events and incidents happen in their life with the former missing the chance to win the Grand Slam and the latter also with the same scenario.

The regret of missing the Grand Slam is something the top two players understand with Djokovic missing the Australian Open and Medvedev on the verge of missing Wimbledon. Do you all think it was fair?
