Novak Djokovic with Wimbledon Trophy
Novak Djokovic loves tennis but loves it more when he wins. He is also the highest earner in terms of prize money in the world in the sport. If he wins the 2022 ATP Finals title, he will breach the $165 million mark in career prize money.
In a candid interview, the 21-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic discussed different aspects of his life, especially those that have till now been not known to the world. He highlighted that people often ask him about how much he earns, but do not know about the sheer hard work that he puts in to win every match.
“Of course, people can see how much we are earning, What the media is not writing about is all the taxes and also the other expenses, but that’s fine,” he said.
The Serb also talked about his struggles and the lessons he learned, which helped him to get to this level.
“I cannot sit here and talk about money as an issue in my life or anything like that. I’ve been very blessed and lucky. It comes as a consequence of my tennis and the success that I’ve had, along with my family and my team. I think that every euro that I’ve earned was through hard sweat and tears. I don’t take anything for granted because I know how it feels like having zero on the table, five family members, war and sanctions,” he expressed himself.
“Let’s not forget where I come from, in which kind of era I was growing up I know exactly the opposite side, which helps me in life I think to appreciate everything I earn more,” he further added.
Novak Djokovic will take on the World No.4 Casper Ruud in the final match of the 2022 ATP Finals in his bid to equal Roger Federer’s record of winning the title highest number of times.

Novak Djokovic is one unique player in terms of his relationship with the media. Unlike Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Andy Murray, and Serena Williams, the media is a lot more loving and kinder. But with the nine-time Australian Open champion, the media is often judgemental and can be criticizing. They love him, but they also criticize him much more easily compared to other talented players.
The Serbian has of late gotten serious about the shameful and unforgiving analysis he is liable to from the tennis media. In an earlier interview, he described how he sees his criticism coming in from both the mainstream media and social media.
“I know that people sometimes think I’m fake, that I do certain things because I want to be loved. It’s not like that, I’m just trying to be genuine. It’s something we’re losing. If you don’t belong to a certain way of thinking, you quickly become the bad guy. That’s no good,” Mr. Djokovic said.
“It is not possible to please everyone, but by now the politically correct forces us to give up expressing our ideas with respect, without hatred, but with freedom. Freedom of speech for me today is just an illusion. I had an extraordinary example of this year, with what happened to me around the vaccine issue. I expressed myself for the freedom to be able to dispose of one’s body, and immediately I was accused of being a no-vax, which I am not,” continuing his train of thought, he further added.
Novak Djokovic had to deal with a lot this season, but he faced every situation head-on and came back strongly. He will love to end the season on a high note and start preparations for the next season as he will take on the world’s best in the 2023 Australian Open.
