According to several reports, Serie A soccer team AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale had considered appointing tennis star Novak Djokovic as the mental coach for the team about three months ago, when they were struggling. The idea was that the Serb would motivate the players with his speeches to have a winner mentality and perform better on the field.

AC Milan is without a doubt the biggest club not only in Italy but in their prime, they were feared in all of Europe. They have seven UEFA Champions League trophies and 19 Scudettos to their name, which shows how big of a club they actually are. AC Milan last won the Serie A in 2022 after a long wait of 11 years. Unfortunately, they were unable to go back-to-back, and the trophy went to Napoli last season.

When they were unable to make the desired start to the 2023/24 season as well, team owner Gerry Cardinale began his preparations to bring in Novak Djokovic to the equation. The Serb has been an AC Milan supporter for a long time and he would have definitely loved this collaboration. Djokovic is pretty well known to be a mental beast and he loves to perform in pressure situations. Thus, he could definitely help the AC Milan players in the mental aspect.

However, according to La Republica, these decisions were made about three months ago and the owner ultimately decided to go contact Novak Djokovic. Hence, the partnership between him and AC Milan never became a reality.

Djokovic was present in the stands at San Siro when AC Milan played against Inter in the first leg of the 2022–23 UEFA Champions League semi-final back in May, along with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Rafael Leao, who were not playing in that match. AC Milan ended up losing that leg 2-0.

I'm a big fan of Milan and I'll always be. For me, football is second only to tennis. My father was a professional footballer and at home we always watch the Rossoneri's games with great interest.

Djokovic also said that his favorite footballer is Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He has great relations with the now-retired Swedish international.
