The big miss out at the Wimbledon Championships this time is something that Novak Djokovic is wanting to recover from. The chance of making it to 24 Grand Slams still exists and If he wins it then he’ll tie the record for the most in tennis. The only question is whether the Serb’s motivation remains strong after his tough loss to Carlos Alcaraz.
Djokovic’s coach Goran Ivanisevic had his own thoughts on the entire scenario. “He is always motivated, a Grand Slam is a Grand Slam. It will be a big fight again. It is good that at Wimbledon, but also before in Paris, a rivalry was created between two players who are 16 years apart. Each of their next matches will be even better, crazier, and more watched,” said Ivanisevic on what is going through Djokovic’s mind and does the Alcaraz threat loom over.
Clearly, Ivanisevic has belief in Novak Djokovic and feels that the Serbian international is super motivated for the US Open where he will compete after a year’s gap. He also mentioned that it’s great that a rivalry is brewing between Djokovic and Alcaraz. However, he didn’t fail to mention the fact that both players are 16 years apart and that age gap does play a big part as many hail Djokovic for being so supremely fit, which may give him an advantage over his younger opponents.

The mysterious last 3 years for Djokovic at the US Open
In the last three years, Novak Djokovic and the US Open have had interesting stories to share. It began in 2020 when Djokovic got disqualified for hitting a line umpire by mistake. That year, the final didn’t include any of the ‘Big 3‘ players for the first time since 2016 Wimbledon, and Dominic Thiem won the championship against Alexander Zverev.
In the following year, Djokovic had a chance to make history in tennis by winning all four Grand Slam tournaments in a single year, a feat not achieved by any male player in the Open Era. He won the first three Grand Slams and reached the final of the other. But unfortunately lost to Daniil Medvedev, who played exceptionally well.
The year after that, Djokovic couldn’t participate in the tournament at Flushing Meadows because he was not vaccinated. Despite the many ups and downs, can Djokovic win the final Slam of the year this time? He will have tough competition from talented players like Carlos Alcaraz and other young stars. But one can believe in Djokovic’s ability to make history once again.
