With both their fourth-round victories at the US Open 2023, Novak Djokovic and Taylor Fritz will face off against each other in the quarterfinals. Both players defeated their fourth-round opponents in straight sets in the fourth round. While both players have played each other quite a number of times, the Serb has always come out on top between the two.
When asked in an on-court interview about a quarterfinal against Novak, Fritz responded, “Novak’s gotten me a lot. But I think one of these times I’m going to get him back. At least I hope. ”
He still holds on to the hope that he will one day get the better of the Serbian great. However, Novak seems to have quite a collected response to this ‘challenge’ by Fritz. He said, “You know, obviously the matches are only going to get tougher from now onwards, you know. And I’m ready. I’m ready for the challenge, and it’s going to be great,” he said, being quite calm about the whole ordeal.
However, the ninth-seeded American still holds on to the aspiration that he will be able to defeat the Serbian veteran. Now, with that being said, it seems like Fritz is all set to take on the tennis great at the quarterfinal match they are set to play on September 5. Notably, the 25-year-old’s best finish at a Grand Slam has been at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships.
The Serb, on the other hand, has set his sights on bagging his 24th Grand Slam title. With a potential title at the US Open, he will be the only men’s tennis player in history to win a record-breaking 24 Grand Slam titles. For context, he is currently the only man to hold 23 titles, sharing the record with former women’s tennis professional Serena Williams.

The Serb beat Gojo with a score of 2-6, 5-7, 4-6 in the fourth round at Arthur Ashe. The 36-year-old will be angling for a record 24th Grand Slam title this year. He is currently in very good form following his title at the Cincinnati Masters against none other than young gun Carlos Alcaraz.
Taylor Fritz, on the other hand, has a quarterfinal finish at Wimbledon 2022. However, he does hold an India Wells Masters title, where he beat Rafael Nadal in the final. Both players will hope to play their best game. Taylor will try to give the best he can and prove to be a tough competitor for Novak.
