Novak Djokovic shook hands with Paradise last night as he won the 24th Grand Slam of his career by defeating Daniil Medvedev in the final of the 2023 US Open. In a match that was earlier deemed to be pretty tricky for the Serbian, he emerged victorious in straight sets, proving once again why he is considered by so many fans as the greatest of all time.
Although Djokovic has an excellent head-to-head record against Russian Medvedev, one major issue concerning him ahead of the 2023 US Open final was the result of the final between them in the 2021 US Open. Back then, Medvedev had managed to beat the Serbian despite being the underdog and that is a defeat that haunts Serbian to this date. After defeating Medvedev in the 2023 US Open final, the Serb talked in length about what he did differently this time.
“I really did my best the last 48 hours not to allow the importance of the moment and what’s on the line get to my head because 2 years ago that’s what happened and I underperformed and I wasn’t able to be at my best and was outplayed. So I learned my lesson,” said Novak Djokovic.
The Serb had been on track to win his 24th Grand Slam title for a long time now. He came very close in the 2023 Wimbledon when he suffered an unfortunate defeat against Carlos Alcaraz in the final. He has finally turned his dream into a reality by winning the 2023 US Open, and it is now clear that the 36-year-old has no wish to stop anytime soon.
Novak Djokovic predicts his retirement from tennis

Novak Djokovic is currently 36 years old and apparently has no plans to stop anytime soon. He has been performing at the highest level of the sport for time immemorial and is surely not even thinking of retiring right now. However, when asked about the same after his US Open victory, the Serb gave a hilarious reply.
“Players come & go. It’ll be the same kind of destiny for me. Eventually, one day, I’ll leave tennis in about 23 or 24 years,” said Novak sarcastically. This is the fourth US Open title of Novak Djokovic’s career.
