Novak Djokovic is preparing to represent Serbia in the Davis Cup Finals Group Stage after winning his 24th Grand Slam championship at the US Open.
Following that, the 36-year-old arrived in Spain to join Team Serbia. They will compete in the Davis Cup Finals group round this week against South Korea, the Czech Republic, and Spain. Djokovic, on the other hand, is expected to play in only two of the three matches.
The World No.1 recently discussed his high hopes for the Serbian national Davis Cup team. They last won this annual team competition in 2010.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion spoke about what is so special to him about representing his country. He said that he has had many experiences in my career with this competition. His desire is to contribute in the best way possible, even knowing that he will barely have time to adapt after the US Open.
He also remarked “Last year it felt bad not to be defending my country and my commitment for 2023 is total. Before the US Open I already said that, no matter what happened, I would be in Valencia.”
The Serbian ace said that he had mentioned it in the beginning of the season that this year his main objectives were the Grand Slams and defending the colours of his country. He wished to help his country reach the final in Malaga.

Novak Djokovic talks about the future of the Davis Cup
The Davis Cup is in its 113th year. However it has recently been under fire due to a change in format following Kosmos’ agreement with the ITF in 2018.
It resulted in the elimination of home and away ties and was a deal due for 25 years. However, it was ended early this year due to a legal dispute with the company run by former Barcelona footballer Gerard Pique.
Novak Djokovic has advocated for changes to the Davis Cup, accusing the International Tennis Federation of ‘never consulting’ the players on the problems. He said,”I don’t know what will happen if the ITF loses in court with Kosmos. Let’s see what happens with the competition. There is a lot of uncertainty because there are also elections for the presidency of the International Federation.” The Serbian was insistent on the survival of the Davis Cup.
