Serbian tennis maestro Novak Djokovic is the undisputed and newly-crowned US Open champion as the 36-year-old beat Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final to win his 24th Major title. Djokovic beat Medvedev in three sets of 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 in three hours and 16 minutes at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. With this win, Djokovic became the first man in tennis history to win 24 Grand Slam titles and also equaled Margaret Court‘s all-time record.
Also, the 36-year-old Serbian avenged his defeat from two years ago at the same tournament. Notably, Daniil Medvedev had denied Djokovic his 4th US Open title in 2021 as the Russian beat the Serbian to win his maiden Grand Slam title. Nevertheless, Djokovic did not let it happen this time around as he comprehensively beat Medvedev.
Coming into the game on the back of a thumping win over Ben Shelton in the semifinals, Djokovic gave a statement in the opening set itself, winning it 6-3. However, Medvedev staged a brief comeback in the second set as the Russian took the lead early on. But Djokovic was alert enough to get his act together and force the set into a tiebreaker which he won 7-5.
In the third set, Medvedev looked exhausted and Djokovic took full advantage of this, firing winners across the court. Eventually, it was a 6-3 win for the Serbian.

Novak Djokovic was in tears after he beat Daniil Medvedev in the 2023 US Open Final. While he threw his racket in the air and kneeled on the court to celebrate his victory, Djokovic ran to hug his family after it. The 36-year-old then also paid tribute to his late friend and mentor Kobe Bryant by sporting a special ‘Mamba Forever’ jersey with the American basketball legend’s jersey number #24 printed on the back.
After all this, Novak Djokovic came out for his on-court interview wherein he talked about what it means for him to win this title in New York. The Serbian said that this title means the world to him as he is getting to live his childhood dream. The 36-year-old then talked about the adversities and the sacrifices it has required to reach this stage.
“It means the world to me. I’m really living my childhood dream. To compete at the highest level. The sport has given me & my family so much. Coming from difficult circumstances & adversities, a couple of wars in our country, being able to push that through, especially for my parents.. giving a lot of sacrifices to support me to play, I love you. Thank you so much.. I fell in love with tennis. No one played tennis in my family before. It was quite a choice,” said Novak Djokovic.
