Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic has been reportedly vacationing in Montenegro after what has been an eventful tournament at Wimbledon. In spite of the title not going his way, something most people were shocked about, the 36-year-old seems to be at peace vacationing with his wife, Jelena Djokovic, and two children.
Montenegro seems to have more importance for the Serbian legend than simply being a holiday destination. This is because Djokovic was seen practicing in Montenegro on the eve of the now-concluded championships at Wimbledon. He had a brief stay to practice with his friend and former top-10 player, Janko Tipsarevic, at his coaching camp in Montenegro.
Leading up to Wimbledon, Djokovic famously decided not to participate in a warm-up event on the grass to further rest himself after a tiring Roland Garros campaign, which saw him lift the title for a third time.
While Djokovic had a relatively smooth path heading to the final, the upset by Alcaraz may have caused Djokovic to regret not competing enough. However, despite Alcaraz’s meteoric rise, the young World No. 1 is expected to improve even more. Djokovic will definitely not have an easy road to the title, even next year.
What lies ahead for Novak Djokovic?
Speaking of tennis rankings, Carlos Alcaraz has extended his points lead over Djokovic by virtue of his Wimbledon triumph. However, the Spaniard has a lot of points to defend in the coming few months, not the least of which is his US Open title. Djokovic, on the other hand, was not allowed to participate there owing to his vaccination status. As a result, the entire 2000 points the slam has to offer are on the table for the Serb.
His finals appearance in 2021 notwithstanding, the US Open has so far been Djokovic’s weakest slam. He has won merely three titles here in as many as nine attempts. With that being said, Djokovic will want to end that title drought and perhaps settle a score with Alcaraz this year at Flushing Meadows.
