Novak Djokovic “shocked” to see Daniil Medvedev retire in an abrupt manner at the Astana Open semi-finals

Novak Djokovic, the 35-year-old Serbian tennis professional is widely regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of all time. With 21 grand slam titles to his name, Djokovic has etched his name among the all-time greats of tennis. The Serb has been in exceptional form this season with some bumps in the way.
Djokovic is currently competing at the Astana Open. The Serb has been in good form throughout the tournament, Djokovic played against the likes of Karen Khachanov and Daniil Medvedev to make his way in the penultimate match of the tournament. The highlight of his campaign so far would be Daniil Medvedev’s retirement from the match as Djokovic received a walkover in the finals.
Talking about Medvedev’s withdrawal, Djokovic said, “I’m still surprised that he (Medvedev) retired from the match. He looked completely fine, maybe last 7-8 points I saw him move slightly slower. It’s still a shock, I was ready for a third set battle and I really hope that his injury is nothing too serious.“
“I know Daniil, he’s a great guy, a fighter and a great competitor. He wouldn’t retire from a match unless he felt like he couldn’t continue. He told me that he pulled his adductor muscle, it was such a close match and he was the better player in both the sets. I was trying to find a way and I pulled it off in the second set.“

Novak Djokovic had a blockbuster tie against Daniil Medvedev set at the Astana Open semi-finals. The match was cut short after Medvedev had to retire early due to an adductor injury, The Serb has now progressed into the finals of the event where he will be facing Greek tennis professional Stefanos Tsitsipas.
The match promises to be an iconic tie between the two. It is a fixture that can go either way but Novak Djokovic will be going in as the favorite.
