Novak Djokovic had a lot of complications on his plate since the start of the year and his ‘unvaccinated‘ status debate has been the much-talked-about topic of discussion. It all started with his deportation from Australia over not being vaccinated hence failing to defend his title at the Australian Open followed by another shocking defeat failing to defend his title at the French Open where he lost to the eventual winner Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals.

The 21-time singles Grand Slam champion has not played a match since his triumph in Wimbledon where he defeated Nick Kyrgios in his maiden singles final appearance in four sets. If that was not enough of his challenges, he had to withdraw his name from the 2022 US Open due to his firm stance on his unvaccinated status which failed to comply with the US mandates and guidelines to enter the country. He had already skipped playing at the hard-court ATP events that are the build-up to the US Open.

Djokovic’s absence from two out of the four major tournaments of the year affected him drastically as he saw a major drop in his overall rankings and was out of the Top 5. He also missed another chance to equal Rafael Nadal‘s record of 22 singles major titles which might widen since the Spaniard has moved into the Round of 16 already and has a high chance of winning his third title of the year at the US Open.

Djokovic was likely to participate in the Davis Cup followed by his participation in the Laver Cup and will then travel to Israel to play at Tel Aviv Open. But the Serbian has pulled himself out of the Davis Cup Finals group stage that begins on September 13 citing personal reasons. He might be back for the final stage of the Davis Cup but it depends on the Serbian Team’s qualification.

Amid his withdrawal, a picture of Djokovic with one of his fans has been on the rounds where he has a bandage on his left wrist that sparked rumors of an injury questioning the reason for his decision not to play at the Davis Cup. It looks like there might be another injury concern on the cards seeing his bandage but hopes that it is nothing serious for the former world number one which might make him away from the court for some more time.
